By neubejiitaNovember 9, in Everything Else. This is the famous text that describes the horrid beings from the other dimension. That is what Quake was loosely based upon. I don't care if this PDF contains knowledge on how to make me the richest man alive and bring about world peace, that fucking font is an eye sore when caps locked.

It's not much better in lowercase, either. You can get a decent quality paperback of the Necronomicon at your local library. This PDF is truly a horror to behold. That makes my eyes burn. Also, why? Does anyone care what Quake was based on?

People either like the gameplay or they think Quake is overrated. Nobody talks about the story, or mythos, or whatever. Personally, I'm in the latter camp.

Awesome, I'm safekeeping it. When I look at it 10 years later, I won't know where I got it from :P I expected it to look like in Evil Dead though, and demons to come out of the walls if I dare recite it :-S Anyway, is the Necronomicon a real piece of literature?!

I thought it's just a figment of Lovecraft's stories, propagated as a myth until we thought some real author did write it.

Holy shit, I saw the Doom teleportation signs there!! Damnit, I knew those signs weren't just made up. I wonder what they mean. Leathercovered necronimicons are quite cheap so I prefer physical book over having to sit near computer and make my eyes sore.In the past 31 years, there has been a lot of ink—actual and virtual—spilled on the subject of the Necronomicon. Some have derided it as a clumsy hoax; others have praised it as a powerful grimoire. As the decades have passed, more information has come to light both on the book's origins and discovery, and on the information contained within its pages.

The Necronomicon has been found to contain formula for spiritual trans-formation, consistent with some of the most ancient mystical processes in the world, processes that were not public knowledge when the book was first published, processes that involve communion with the stars. In spite of all the controversy, the first edition sold out before it was published.

And it has never been out of print since then. This year, the original designer of the edition and the original editor have joined forces to present a new, deluxe hardcover edition of the most feared, most reviled, and most desired occult book on the planet. Simon had been a monk, a priest, later an abbot and finally a consecrated bishop of this Eastern Church, becoming ordained even before he graduated high school. Coming from a Slavic background his grandparents fled the Austro-Hungarian Empire he acquired a broad knowledge of several foreign languages, including French, Spanish, Italian, Slavonic, Greek, Latin and even Mandarin Chinese.

This ability enables him to communicate with people from many races and nationalities as well as to probe the mysteries of religion and magick in the ancient manuscripts and worn leather books from many long-forgotten lands.

As a young priest, he found himself called upon to perform exorcisms among poor ethnic families in the sometimes seedy and dangerous New York City neighborhoods that were his parish. He had faced evil many times in his life, and battled with the devil himself in his many disguises. They had not quite made history yet, those two renegade monks who had unwittingly made it possible for Simon to be one of the first human beings to actually hold the notorious spellbook in his hands.

But they would. Shortly thereafter, headlines in the New York Times, the Christian Science Monitor and other papers across the country proclaimed the awful truth. His two brother monks had been arrested for committing the biggest rare book heist in the history of the United States. Little did they know the true value of one of their ill-gotten possessions - the corroded box containing hundreds of pages of manuscript written in a large, cursive hand in the Greek tongue.

It was only one of hundreds and hundreds more they had stolen from universities and private collections across the United States and Canada. The two monks would eventually serve time in a federal prison for their offense.

And Simon would be left with the task of deciphering what appeared to be an ancient book of spells dating from the ninth century, A. Barnes had been a student at the university of Colorado when he began painting the bizarre works of alien landscapes that have become his hallmark to all who know him now.

Somehow, he knew the book had to exist. In some form. He knew it was not a mere fantasy of Lovecraft's - for the very concept of such a book held a power all its own. Then one day ina friend, whom we can identify only by his initials B. Jokingly, he asked the proprietor, Herman Slater, if such was the case. Friends and business associates told both Simon and his new partner, L.So, I was thinking of using the sigil for next year's halloween costume, for amusement purposes only, but as a Roman Catholic, I can't help but to feel maybe I shouldn't tamper with this kind of stuff.

The Necronomicon itself is fictional, used as a plot device in H. Lovecraft's stories, but some people have written books claiming to be the fabled grimoire.

This sigil in particular is included in one of those works, and apparently it does have some sort of arcane significance involving Sumerian and Babylonian gods, but come on, none of that is true, is it?

In fact, the actual credibility of the book is disputed, and it alludes works of fiction I believe deeply in God, and I'm only going to use the symbol as a decoration, so do you believe it's safe to use?

Or should I abstain from using it? You'll be fine.

The only "harm" it can do is if you invest enough belief in it, and think it is harmful or dangerous. If you still feel uncomfortable or superstitious about using it, then don't, as you will only worry and then anything "bad" that happens you will believe is caused by the symbol. The Necronomicon that contains the Babylonian mythological content was cobbled together by occultists in the 70s, so strictly speaking has no more objective reality behind it than Lovecraft's literary device.

The Necronomicon is like you stated, a work of fiction from the Great Prophet Howard Lovecraft, who foretold the return of the great Cthulhu. About the Sumerian arcane relationship, I do not know of it's actual representation of ancient Mesopotamian beliefs, but I doubt that the sigil would hold little resemblance to an actual Sumerian symbol, especially seeing as how we know very little of ancient Mesopotamian customs.

To try and make you feel better, there is a Satanic organization in Sweden called the Temple of the Black Light. I won't go into depth about their beliefs, but when compared to other organizations, these people do not fool around. They are very serious. Anyways, there is a page where they talk about Sumerian and Babylonian lore and have esoteric symbols all around their pages. There is a disclaimer saying " It is not our intention to recreate Ancient Sumerian Paganism, it is only our intention to invoke the Gods and Goddesses of Ancient Mesopotamia to fit our ritual structure.

But of course I am probably biased because I am an Atheist and think of only as a drawing, which carries to no decision as to your mortal future. If you plan to go into this then I must tell you one thing first. There is no such thing as black magic; there is only ill intent.

Therefore you should probably be fine, but I would suggest purifying it however you know. Seeing as I have no idea what religion, if any, you follow, I won't be able to give you a suggestion on that. Are you really sure you should be asking people on the Internet for things like this?
